ELECTIONS: 1957

Toe Blake led the pack in 1957, but he finished with 14 votes and just missed induction.

Mike Wyman was among the most outspoken about Blake's near election.

"There are six of us who have really got to take another look at Toe Blake between now and the next election," Wyman said.

The Montreal-based columnist for an online magazine said he spoke with Blake's former linemate Elmer Lach the week before. Wyman said, "(Lach) remembered Blake as the backbone of the Punch Line, one of a very few veterans that Dick Irvin kept when he took over the team. Blake practiced the way he played in a game. "Sometimes the practices were tougher than the games."
